Bollywood does it again. The remix fad that we thought had waned, has cast its shadows once again on the B-town. The recently released song, Pyaar Mein Dil Pe, from the upcoming film Tamanchey presents an old wine in new…brand new bottle.
The original track which was composed by R.D.Burman for the film Mahaan was sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle, and was picturised on Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman. Although Nikhil Dwivedi and Richa Chadda are nowhere close to Big B and Zeenat Aman yet the song has already created waves amongst the Bollywood buffs. Sung by Bappi da, the song’s official video portrays a sizzling chemistry between the two leads.
However, even before the song could become a chart topper, it’s embroiled in a controversy. Shemaroo which holds the rights for the film has objected to the use of this popular 80’s number. However, the film will also be using the remix version of the song as the background score for the film and it has used the song’s first line as its tagline.
Lately, the trend of remixing the old songs looks to have caught up with the B-town music composers. Here’s our list of the recent best of 80’s from Bollywood.
Apni Toh Jaise Taise
This original track that was rehashed for the Sajid Khan’s Housefull was a product from the ace composers Kalyanji Anandji and was sung by Kishore Kumar. The song became a chart topper as “Dhanno” and was also a discotheque favorite.
When asked the singer, Kavita Krishnamurthy, if she was okay with her song being remixed, she only smiled and replied that remix was the need of the hour and she didn’t have a problem with the recent remix of Hawa Hawaai. Shaitan revamped the original track from Shekhar Kapur’s fantasy-superhero film Mr. India and it was sung by Suman Sridhar.
Many would assume Disco Deewane to be a song from an 80’s Bollywood hit. However, the song comes from the best selling pop album of 1980’s by Nazia Hassan. Such was the popularity of the album that it became the best selling Asian pop album. This song was revamped for the film Student Of The Year and it became a massive hit amongst the youth.
Har Kisiko Nahin Milta
The original song that featured B-town diva Hawa Hawaai Sridevi became an instant hit. Har Kisiko was from Feroz Khan’s directorial venture Janbaaz that presented a steaming chemistry between Anil Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia. When the song was taken up by Boss, it featured Sonakshi Sinha and was an additional number to the album. Arijit Singh and Neeti Mohan recreated the magic of this popular 80’s number.
Aaj Phir Tum Pe
Amongst the raucous numbers that often top the charts, this one turned out to be melody to the ears. Taken from the 1988 film Dayavan that starred Madhuri Dixit and Vinod Khanna, this rehashed track from Hate Story 2 became a sensational number of the year.
Often music composers are delighted to remix the old melodies with the new instrumentation and orchestra so as to add a contemporary feel tp the timeless classic. Till date the formula has been doing well with the audience and looks like the remixes are here to stay.
