Bollywood, Cricket Aur Hum

Bollywood and cricket has been a good team, always. In a way, one is an alter ego for another, both define a person’s chase for glamour world. And then there are the usual celebrity-cricketer “hook-ups” that bring the two worlds together! Even before Virat-Anushka created a buzz about their relationship, we had one too many engagements between Bollywood and Indian cricket team. And even though, Bollywood actors can’t get into Indian Cricket Team, Cricket Team members become an integral part of Bollywood. Actor who have dreamt of playing for the Cricket team now fulfill their dreams with Celebrity Cricket League. So it is a mutual give and take relationship Bollywood has had with Cricket. And cricket too has given us one too many Cricket themed films.

Lagaan has become a standard example but we take you through the films that have forayed with this theme. Jab Mil Baithengey Teen Yaar, Bollywood, Cricket Aur Hum these films deserve to be seen at least once!

Awwal Number

Directed by Dev Anand, the film starred Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan alongside Aditya Pancholi. The film which revolves around the hatred infused by the game between Sunny and Ronny, touches upon theme of terrorism. However, it is laden with strokes and clean sweeps.


An all time favourite SRK film (of course that’s after Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa) is based on cricket. SRK becomes the invincible coach of a college cricket team, turns them from rookies to master blasters and wins over the rogue team with his superpowers.


A film that encourages us to dream as much as inspires us, a film by Nagesh Kukunoor which received the National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues is a must watch cricket theme Bollywood film. A deaf and dumb boy who dreams of playing cricket for the country defies the odds, wins over his handicap and becomes the face of the Indian cricket team!

Ferrari Ki Sawaari

The film spans a story of a little boy Kayo who only dreams of playing cricket and his father Rusy aims to fulfill all his son’s dreams. Rusy doesn’t mind tad dishonesty for the sake of his son’s happiness. He even steals Sachin Tendulkar’s Ferrari so that his son’s dreams don’t shatter!

Patiala House

Akshay Kumar’s film ought to be packed with melodrama, comedy and action, for how else will this Khiladi retains his penchant? Sans the dare devilry stunts, this film is absolute family film, where a son, who although wishes to play cricket, doesn’t do so to keep his father’s word. The film journeys through emotions and shows how love conquers over age old enmity.

So for the nine consecutive wins by Indian cricket Team, this was our Bollywood Salaam!
